7 apps are killing your mobile battery

BY SOFTONIC

June 10, 2016

Ever find yourself thinking how it’s possible to completely drain your battery within a matter of hours, even after the device has been charging all night?

There are loads of different reasons as towhy our batteries aren’t lasting. Whether it’s keeping our Wi-Fi activated while out of the house, or having the brightness of our screens on full tilt, we’ve all become aware of what the sources of the problem are. But, what about the apps you use?

Well, it may surprise you that many of the most popular apps on the market are to blame for your low battery life, but which ones are the worst? We’ve put together 7 apps which are the worst for draining your batter

1. Facebook

It may not come as a surpise that Facebook is one of the worst apps for draining your battery. Facebook is constantly requesting information from your device, however it no longer automatically updates itself as it used to (this consumed A LOT of battery even when you wern’t using the app during the day).

First of all, make sure you have the most recent version of the app installed on your device. At the end of 2015, Facebook discovered an error in their apps that was consuming much more battery than was necessary. Facebook found a solution to this problem in October 2015, so double check to make sure you at least have that version.

Using Facebook on a daily basis? It’s normal, but make sure you close the app when you’re not using it, in order to prevent it from working in the background. To do this, you must go into the settings of your device and look for the section that allows apps to automatically update in the background. To do this on iPhone, go toSettings > General > Update Apps in the Background, and disable the Facebook option.

Many people are also finding that they are not just saving battery, but mobile data, simply by deleting the app completely and using the web version through their mobile’s internet browser.

2. Candy Crush Saga

This game might ring a few bells, as it’s the most downloaded mobile game in the world – ever. Many people believe that the aim of the game is to eliminate rows of candy, but actually, Candy Crush’s ulterior motive is to wipe out your battery completely.

Like most mobile games from King, Candy Crush has the ability to drain your battery while it’s in the background, as the game has to connect to the server every now and then to establish how much time is left and how many lives you have.

So how can you prevent Candy Crush from killing your battery? Well, it’s easy – you need to get into the habit of closing down the app completely while not using the game.

3. WhatsApp Messenger

Just like Facebook, WhatsApp is always running, and always waiting for someone to send you a messaage. The more social activity you have, the faster it’ll eat into your battery – it’s logical right?

So, how can you stop it from being so aggressive? Well, as with Facebook, simply by configuring its function to stop working in the background will save you a ton of data and battery. Why not start making use of WhatsApp’s PC/Mac version?

If you fancy a change, why not check out why many people are turning to WhatsApp’s biggest rival Telegram right here.

4. Twitter

How many times are you Tweeting per day? If it’s a lot, then yes, Twitter’s official app is not the best thing for your battery.

So what can you do? Well, luckily, there are many alternatives to the official app, such as TwiderePlume and HootSuite, that don’t use as much data and battery as the Twitter app. One of the best, hassle-free options is to simply start using Twitter through your mobile internet browser.

If you’re not quite ready to give up the app, you can also prevent it from working in the background (in your device’s settings), and by also making sure the app is closed when not in use.

5. Skype

There are some reports that indicate that the Skype app can actually use up to 30% of your mobile battery each day, simply because it always has to run in the background just in case anyone calls or sends you a message.

There are many guides on the internet that suggest that it’s best to remove the app completely, opting instead for the call features that Facebook and WhatsApp have to offer. Like the other apps, it’s also possible to stop Skype from working in the background, however you may possibly miss calls and messages as you won’t be able to receive the notifcations. As not many people use Skype for instant messaging anymore, this is possibly a viable and easy option.

6. Google Maps

Any GPS application can cause your battery status to plummet in record time because the apps need to constantly connect to their servers in order to locate you on the go. This time, we need to use our common sense in order to save our batteries.

When looking for how to get from A to B, and you already know where you’re going before you set off, plan your route and take a screen shot of the directions or map if need be, before closing the application completely.

Another solution is to not allow the app to use location services. Yes, this may seem a bit contradictory, however if you’re trying to find directions for somewhere in your home city, you’ll at least have a rough idea of where you are, and where you’re going to. If you’re really lost, it takes a few seconds to activate the location services to quickly find your way.

7. Spotify

Spotify is the world’s most popular music-streaming service. “Streaming” is never good for any battery – and many of you will have already experienced drastic battery loss if using the app on a daily basis. There are two solutions that could rectify your battery usage while using Spotify, but to find out which one works best for you, you’ll have to experiment with both.

a) Choose to listen to your music using lower quality audio. Of course, the sound won’t be the same, but if you’ve got a long journey ahead, you’ll be glad of the extra time this will provide you.

b) Activate the Offline Mode option on your favorite playlists or albums. Yes, this will consume some of your device’s internal memory, however you will no longer be streaming the audio. You can also deactivate it easily when you’re done.

Apps don’t just affect our battery consumption – they can also eat into our mobile data allowance, meaning that many of us can’t make it to the end of the month without having to request or pay for more data from our mobile providers. Learn how to adjust the settings of various apps in order to save your mobile data right here!

Jualan Soto

*🍲🍲 Jualan Soto Cara Langit*

dikasih untung sama Allah !!! 🙏

Mereka kuliah semua Dik.

Saya membeli dompet cantik buat hadiah Bu Amir.

"Lho, kok balik lagi,

"Dik, terimakasih hadiahnya.
Maaf, bukan ibu menolak.
Awet banget, tuh sampe sekarang masih bagus."

Begitu kata Bu Amir sambil tersenyum.

Selamat hari yg berkah 🌾🌾🌾

MAKE YOUR OWN MODEL AIRPLANE PROPELLER FOR RUBBER POWERED

NOTIFICATION:
This homemade propeller really works--powered by a rubber band--and it is fun to make a model airplane completely from scratch. However, it is a challenging project that I do not ask my middle school students to attempt. When they build planes, they use commercial 6" nose hook propellers from Kelvin.com, part number # 850654.

It will take a lot of time, trial and error to get it to work.

Below is only a stopgap description until I can make an instructional video detailing the steps.

What you need

a two-liter soda (Coke/Pepsi) bottle

It should be un-crushed and smooth. Try to get one with the label still on. Rinse it out before using.

small paper clips

Use the all-metal ones, not the plastic multi-colored ones. The ones I use are about 3 3/4" (95mm) long when un-bent so they are

straight.

needle nose pliers, scissors, tape, razor or sharp-pointed knife

You could use regular pliers in a pinch.

a propeller to copy

This isn't absolutely necessary but if you have a commercial 6" (150mm) or so long propeller made for rubber bands and it works well, why re-invent the wheel? It helped me sort out the angles the first time.

PROCESS:

Step 1

cut out the blade halves

If you look at a factory-made propeller you will see that the angle twists as it goes from the outside to the center (this is to compensate for the outer part of the propeller going faster than the part of the propeller nearer the center of rotation). Theoretically, you can attain this complex twist by cutting the blades out of the soda bottle at a slight slant--5 degrees or less. In practice, I put very little twist in my propellers, but I'd like to hear how other people do it.

The picture shows a paper pattern about 7/8" (22mm) wide. Later on I will shape it more. It is tipped slightly from vertical (represented by a red line) to the left for twist. You need two of these to make one propeller.

Step 2

make the paper clip shaft, etc

This is going to be two pieces of paper clip straightened, then hooked together to form a "T" shape. Bend a small loop into the middle of one straightened paper clip, and a small hook into the end of the other. Each wire must grab onto the other, or else the propeller will be flimsy. Crimp and put a drop of glue at the intersection to hold everything steady. I use hot glue because I lack patience, but any glue should work.

Step 3

attach the blades to the shaft

The easiest way to attach the two plastic propeller halves to the shaft it to make a loop in the two paper clips (the top of the "T"). Then just tape them on, as shown in the picture. In the picture the actual shaft (the bottom of the "T") is hidden by glue and various bearings (made from a cut-up ballpoint pen ink tube, see step 4, below).

The other way to attach the plastic blades to the paper clip shaft is to punch or melt a small hole near the end (5 mm or so) of the plastic. Then poke the end of the paper clip through, bend it around and crimp hard as shown.

Whichever method you attach the paper clip "T" to the plastic blades, the concave part of the blades should face the plane (or to put it another way, the bottom of the "T"). If you forgot and put them the wrong way, you should be able to twist the paper clip wire until it faces the right way.

By the same method of twisting the wire, set the blades to their proper angle. This is difficult to convey with words and two-dimentional images. Here is where a commercial propeller to copy comes in handy.

Step 4

attach to plane

The top picture shows how an old ball point pen is cut open and the thin ink tube used to make various bearings. The main bearing is a short piece of the ink tube with paper clip wire wrapped around. I glued the wire to the tube with hot glue. The ends of the wire are glued onto the front of the body of the plane. Make sure the tube is lined up so the propeller shaft that will go through it will point forward, not up, down or to one side.

The lower picture shows the assembly. I thread on a couple more very short tubes so they will be between the the propeller and the main bearing. I haven't really tested whether these additional bearings reduce friction or not. Next, I put the shaft through the main bearing. Only then do I bend a hook into the end of the shaft; otherwise it will not fit through.

Step 5

odds and ends

The commercial propellers we use for the squirrel plane are 6" (153mm) long. I make the homemade propellers between 6" and 7".
Sometimes I trim t
he leading edge of the propeller a bit so it tapers slightly toward the tip.
Be aware that the soda bottle propeller is lighter weight than commercial propellers. You might have to weight the front of the plane or readjust it

How to Make an Underwater Robot

Reference : Build Your Own Underwater Robot and other wet projects,
by Harry Bohm and Vickie Jensen

First, let me say that the book is pretty neat and a must have if you want to get started on building a robot for underwater research. It gives a nice history of underwater vessels so you can better understand what goes into making a water craft of this type. The book seems a little geared towards a kindergartner at times, but it really is usefully. Now things like transmissions for radio control and brains for the robot are left up to you, but the book does tell you step by step how to build two underwater ROVs, Remotely Operated Vehicles. The one I am going to explain here is the SEAPERCH, the other is more advanced and is named the SEAFOX. The SEAFOX uses tiny bilge pumps to dive and surface.
The SEAPERCH uses DC motors with fan propellers for propulsion underwater.

Parts list:
1 - 60" length of 1/2 inch of regular PVC or plumbing pipe cute in these lengths:
2 - 4 and 1/2 inches long
2 - 4"
4 - 3"
4 - 2 and 1/2"
and 6 that are 1 and 1/2 inches long
10 - 1/2" PVC 90 degree elbows
4 - 1/2" PVC tee's
1 - 10" sheet of heavy duty plastic hardware cloth or 1/4" wire mesh screen
2- 4 1/2" long by 22 3/4" diameter hard closed cell foam fish net floats or you can make your own floats out of two 2" diameter by 10" long PVC pipe with end caps glued on.
3 - film canisters to use as covers to protect the motors

You'll also need three 12 volt motors like the ones from radio shack - # 273-255
and three small propellers that are 1" in diameter model # FP-40 made by Billings Hobby and you can pick them up at most local hobby shops.

You'll also need some fishing weights or balancing leads for the ballast, the book says the weight will be determined by the displacement of the ROV. The idea is to put the weights on the mesh screen and make it so the ROV just barely floats, with the bow slightly higher than the stern.
The wired remote controlled part, I will tells you how to do that step by step also if you need to know that. Just a 12 volt battery, 3 DPDT center off switches and a good amount of wire.

I want to also add that to make the motors air tight the books says to use the film caps (which can be seen on the motors below) and make sure to cover all the motors holes and use petroleum jelly and melted wax to seal up the around the holes of the canisters, just make sure your motor shaft can spin.

How to make your own LED bulbs

I saw in other blogs showing how to make a leds bulbs, I think its very good to be shared.

Some words from Author:
"After many attempts to make all sorts of LED-conversions I finally found one solution that is simple and efficient. Of course, you do need a great amount of patience in making this but when you consider the countless hours of pure light -low consumption you’ll get, it’s all worth it. This tutorial is about converting regular GU4(MR11) halogen bulbs to LED bulbs while maintaining full usability as 12V light bulbs that can be used in indoor task or accent lighting".
